    A collection of academic electronic books from ABC-Clio, Praeger, Greenwood Press and Libraries Unlimited. All ABC-Clio ebook titles can also be accessed through I-Share.

  • Academic Search Complete

    Provides abstracts from almost 8,200 periodicals in the social sciences, humanities, general science, multicultural studies, and others, with full text articles from nearly 4,650 titles. PDFs go back to 1975 or further, and almost every topic of study is covered.

  • AccessScience

    The online version of the 10th edition of the McGraw-Hill Online Encyclopedia of Science and Technology. In addition to more than 8,500 encyclopedic articles on science and technology, this resource includes recent research developments, biographies of scientists, science and technology news, illustrations, learning resources, and links to web sites.

  • ACM Digital Library

    Contains the full text of articles from over 35 ACM journals and magazines. You can also access conference proceedings. Covers computer and information science from the 1950s-present.

  • African American Experience

    A rich collection of online reference works and primary sources documenting the African American experience for over 200 years. Includes over 4,000 interviews with former slaves, multimedia files, lesson plans and classroom resources.

  • African American Music Reference

    Offers the first comprehensive coverage of blues, jazz, spirituals, civil rights songs, slave songs, minstrelsy, rhythm and blues, gospel, and other forms of black American musical expression. This database includes 3,685 essays and images from 94 sources, over 26,764 pages.

  • AGRICOLA

    Describes materials relating to all aspects of agriculture, forestry, and animal science acquired by the National Agriculture Library and cooperating institutions.

  • American History in Video

    Provides over 1470 videos for the study of American history. This collection contains commercial and governmental newsreels, archival footage, public affairs footage, and important documentaries.

  • American Indian Experience

    A full-text digital resource exploring the histories and contemporary cultures of the indigenous peoples of the United States, from pre-contact to the present day, from the Inuit of the north to the Seminoles of Florida. It contains more than 150 volumes of scholarship and reference content, hundreds of primary documents, and thousands of images.

  • American Mosaic

    A collection of databases dealing with different American ethnic groups. There are current three major groups represented: African Americans, American Indians and Latino Americans. Future releases will concentrate on Asian Americans.

  • American Song

    A music collection of over 3,275 albums (57,465 tracks) from America’s past and present, including songs by and about American Indians, miners, immigrants, slaves, children, pioneers, and cowboys. Songs on Civil Rights, political campaigns, Prohibition, the Revolutionary War, the Civil War and anti-war protests are represented.

  • Annual Reviews

    A catalog of almost 1 million descriptions of archival collections owned by thousands of libraries, museums, and archives worldwide.

  • ArticleFirst

    A general source for science, technology, medicine, social science, business, the humanities, and popular culture. Over 16,000 titles are indexed from 1990-present.

  • ARTstor

    A collection of nearly 700,000 digital images of paintings, photos, architectural works, sculptures, and design pieces from around the world from all time periods. Images appear in a separate window; make sure that any pop-up blockers are disabled before accessing this database.

  • ATLA Religion with ATLASerials

    Designed to support religious and theological scholarship, this international database covers such topics as Biblical studies, world religions, Church history, and religious perspectives on social issues from 1949-present. Through ATLA you can gain access to full-text articles in ATLASerials, a collection of 100 theological journals.

  • Black Thought and Culture

    A database for study of African Americans from colonial times to the present. Contains 1300 sources such as books, essays, articles, speeches and interviews, including previously unpublished materials.

  • Book Review Index

    A guide to book reviews published back to 1965, with over 5,000,000 review citations from thousands of publications.

  • Britannica Online

    Has the entire text of the Encyclopedia Britannica; it also includes tools such as World Data Analyst, country comparisons, an interactive world atlas, and Merriam-Webster's Dictionary and Thesaurus.

  • Business Source Elite

    Contains selected full text from nearly 1,100 journals in business, management, economics, finance, banking, accounting, and related areas. Coverage is from 1985-present.

  • CAMIO-Catalog of Art Museum Images Online

    High-quality art images from museums around the world. All images are rights-cleared for educational use. Images include photographs, costumes, paintings, prints, posters, sculpture, jewelry and decorative arts.

  • Chicago Tribune

    Gets you to the full text (excluding advertisements) from 1985-date. To see the full text of the Tribune from 1849-1985, go to ProQuest Historical Newspapers: Chicago Tribune.

  • CIA World Factbook

    A Central Intelligence Agency publication providing country information: background, geography, people, government, economy, communications, transportation, military, transnational issues, and maps. Also see World Factbook in Credo Reference in order to compare data from different countries.

  • CINAHL Plus with Full Text

    Covers literature related to nursing, kinesiology, and allied health professionals. Provides full text for hundreds of journals; plus legal cases, clinical innovations and trials, and drug records.

  • CLASE and PERIODICA

    A combination of two different indexes covering Latin American journals in the social sciences, sciences, the humanities, and Pan-American issues. CLASE and PERIODICA accesses citations in over 2,700 scholarly journals published in Spanish, Portuguese, French and English. CLASE covers 1975-present, while PERIODICA covers 1978-present.

  • Classical Music Library

    Classical Music Library is an extensive collection of over 50,000 recordings of classical music, focusing on contemporary classical music and women composers. Pieces come from over 30 music labels. Free registration enables users to create their own playlists.

  • Classical Scores Library

    Contains 400,000 pages of classical scores spanning time periods from the Renaissance to the 21st century.

  • Cochrane Library

    The "gold standard in evidence-based healthcare," the Cochrane library is a collection of the results of the world's medical research studies, and includes the following databases: * Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR) * Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects (DARE) * Central Registry of Controlled Trials * Methodology Register * Health Technology Assessment Database

  • ComAbstracts

    Contains abstracts of over 50,000 articles published in the communication(s) field.

  • Communication and Mass Media Complete (CMMC)

    Covers a variety of areas pertaining to communication and mass media. The product of a merging of CommSearch and Mass Media Articles Index, CMMC contains the full text of over 300 titles in addition to citations to several other types of documents.

  • Communication Institute for Online Scholarship (CIOS)

    Supports the use of computer technologies in the service of communication scholarship and education. Their web site includes a resource library, electronic conferences, tables of contents for current communications journals, the Visual Communication Concept Explorer, and much more.

  • Consumer Health Complete

    A full-text database providing access to easily understandable health and medical information. It covers topics such as aging, cancer, diabetes, drugs & alcohol, fitness, nutrition & dietetics, children's health, men & women's health, and more.

  • Contemporary World Music

    This collection of contemporary and traditional world music recordings includes 1,750 albums (23,235 tracks) covering genres such as reggae, worldbeat, neo-traditional, world fusion, Balkanic jazz, African film, Bollywood, Arab swing and jazz, Indian classical, fado, flamenco, klezmer, zydeco, gospel, gagaku, and more.

  • CQ Researcher

    Covers current and controversial issues from 1996-present. Provides summaries, analysis, and bibliographies. Limited to 5 simultaneous users.

  • Credo Reference

    An online collection of over 400 reference books, containing the full text of titles covering a wide range of subjects, from art to technology. All Credo Reference titles can also be accessed through I-Share.

  • Daily Life Online

    A suite of databases that explore life and culture from the past to the present, allowing researchers to compare and contrast social issues through the ages. A useful resource for looking at arts and literature in the context of their times. Includes extensive teacher resources, correlating materials in the databases to the Illinois Learning Standards.

  • Dance in Video

    A collection of 189 videos of dance productions and documentaries by the most influential performers and companies of the 20th century. Selections cover ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, experimental, and improvisational dance, as well as the pioneers of modern concert dance.

    Written at an elementary-school reading level, this database offers in-depth information on a variety of topics relating to animals; includes articles and some images of animals.

  • Education Resource Information Center (ERIC) Website

    Allows users to access the full text of more that 107,000 ERIC documents released between 1993 and 2004. To use this website most efficiently, you will need the ERIC document number (e.g., ED425001) of the material you wish to retrieve. Use ERIC to find ERIC documents and their numbers.

  • Encyclopedia of Chicago

    The definitive reference source on metropolitan Chicago and its history. Includes over 1,400 entries--articles, photos, maps, broadsides and newspapers--tracing Chicago's development from the 17th century to the present.

  • ERIC via EBSCO

    ERIC is a key source for education information. Allows users to access articles from scholarly as well as professional periodicals, in addition to ERIC documents. Many articles are available in full-text, and there are links to full-text ERIC documents available.

    Includes online versions of the Gale Directory of Publications and Broadcast Media, Encyclopedia of Business Information Sources, and Market Share Reporter.

  • Gale Virtual Reference Library

    Contains the full-text of more than 65 print reference titles, allowing you access to key reference sources without having to be in the library. All Gale Virtual Reference titles can also be accessed through I-Share.

  • Global Issues in Context

    A database that explores global issues through a portal displaying current information from newspapers, magazines, academic journals, websites, reference sources, primary sources and statistics.

  • Google Scholar

    A search engine to broadly search for scholarly literature from one platform across many disciplines and sources.

  • GPO Monthly Catalog

    Contains records on all subjects of interest to the U.S. government, including Congressional reports, hearings and debates; judiciary materials; and documents issued by executive departments from 1976-present.

  • GreenFILE

    GreenFILE is a collection of scholarly, government and general-interest titles that include content on the environmental effects of individuals, corporations and local/national governments, and what can be done on each level to minimize negative impact. Topics covered include global warming, green building, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, recycling, and more.

  • HarpWeek

    A collection of the 19th century periodical Harper's Weekly, covering the years from 1857-1912. It includes full-page images of each issue, including cartoons, editorials, news, illustrations, and advertisements.

  • Health Source: Consumer Edition

    Features searchable full text for nearly 80 journals on consumer health topics, including food science and nutrition, child care and sports medicine. Also includes hundreds of health topic pamphlets and health reference books.

    A comprehensive collection of jazz recordings (2,549 albums and 26,599 tracks) available online—-with thousands of jazz artists, ensembles, albums, and genres.

  • Journal of Applied Physics

    The archival journal of the American Institute of Physics (AIP), presenting significant finds in applied physics from 1931-present.

  • JSTOR

    An electronic archive of titles, often going back to the first issue of a journal's existence. Articles can be found in the following collections: Arts and Sciences I-VI and Complement; Health & General Sciences; Business II; and Biological Sciences. JSTOR does not include current issues of journals.

    A wide-ranging collection of materials focused on the history and culture of Latinos in the United States. Materials include more than 150 scanned books, hundreds of primary documents, Spanish-language content, and lesson plans. Additional information on the history and culture of the people of Latin America, the Caribbean and the Iberian Peninsula is also included.

  • Lexis-Nexis Academic

    Provides full text access to over 5,600 news, business, legal, medical and reference sources, including wire services, case law, broadcast transcripts and SEC filings.

  • Lexis-Nexis Statistical

    Provides a wealth of information from 1,000 of the best statistical publications. Statistics come from a variety of resources, such as the U.S. Federal Government and the UN Statistical Yearbook. Provides access to the Statistical Abstract of the United States and the American Statistics Index, which collects data from federal and stage agencies and intergovernmental organizations.

  • Literary Index

    An online index to the entirety of the approximately 130 print Gale products, including Contemporary Literary Criticism, Poetry Criticism, Drama Criticism, and Short Story Criticism. There are nearly 150,000 authors and 200,000 titles indexed.

  • Literature Criticism Online

    Search Nineteenth-Century Literature Criticism (NCLC), Shakespearean Criticism (SC), and Twentieth-Century Literary Criticism (TCLC) through an easy-to-navigate interface.

  • Literature Resource Center

    Combines a variety of key literary resources, including MLA International Bibliography, Merriam-Webster's Encyclopedia of Literature, Contemporary Authors Online, Contemporary Literary Criticism Select, Scribner Writers Series, Twayne's and the Dictionary of Literary Biography.

  • MAS-Ultra, School Edition

    Designed for high school libraries, this database provides articles from over 500 popular publications dating back to 1975. Every article is assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles). This database also includes book reviews, pamphlets, reference books as well as biographies and primary source documents, and an extensive collection of photos, maps and flags. Useful for Education majors.

  • MasterFILE Premier

    A multidisciplinary database providing full text for nearly 1,750 general reference publications including 500 reference books and 164,424 primary source documents, as well as an image collection of over 453,000 photos, maps and flags.

  • MathSciNet

    Covers the world's mathematical literature since 1940, providing Web access to signed reviews and bibliographic data collected by the American Mathematical Society from over 1800 periodicals.

  • MEDLINE

    An international index to all areas of medicine, dating back to 1965. Over 10,500 titles are indexed, and substantial abstracts are included.

  • MEDLINE with Full Text

    A comprehensive source of full text for medical journals, providing full text for more than 1,370 journals. Of those, more than 1,300 have cover-to-cover indexing in MEDLINE, and there are more than 1,400,000 full-text articles dating back to 1965.

  • Military and Government Collection

    Offers current news on all branches of the military and government, including a collection of academic journals, trade publications and newsweeklies; also provides full text for almost 300 periodicals. Full text from 1975-present.

  • MLA International Bibliography

    An international index to literature, languages, linguistics, film, and folklore from 1963 to the present. Part of Gale's Literature Resource Center, MLA can be accessed independently.

  • Music Online

    Browse or search this comprehensive database of streaming audio, video, reference, and scores on the web. More than 400,000 audio tracks, 400,000 scores, 100,000 pages of music reference, and over 500 hours of video are included.

  • Naxos

    Provides access to over 85,000 music tracks from the Naxos label and other catalogs. Users can listen to audio tracks of classical, jazz, world, folk, and Chinese music. Besides providing streaming audio, the database also provides biographical information on musicians and composers as well as notes on the music itself. Limited to 5 simultaneous users.

  • NetLibrary

    A collection of over 23,500 full-text electronic books available to Elmhurst College students, faculty, and staff. To be able to access NetLibrary books from off-campus, you must first create a NetLibrary username while on the Elmhurst College campus. All Elmhurst netLibrary titles can also be accessed through I-Share.

  • New York Times

    Allows you to access the full text from 1980-present. To see the full text of the Times from 1851-2003, go to ProQuest Historical Newspapers: New York Times.

  • Newspaper Source

    Contains comprehensive full text of articles from 35 U.S. national and international newspapers, selected full text from over 200 regional papers, and television and radio news transcripts.

  • NoveList

    A resource that assists fiction readers in finding new authors and titles, from a list of 155,000 fiction titles. Also includes book discussion guides and searchable award lists.

  • NoveList K-8

    A subset of NoveList which specializes in helping children and young adults discover new authors and titles to read.

  • OAIster

    A catalog of more than 19 million digital resources from over 1,000 organizations, developed by the University of Michigan and harvested using the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting. Includes scanned books, articles, audio, video, images, and datasets.

  • Occupational Outlook Handbook

    Occupational Outlook Handbook describes the training and education needed, earnings, expected job prospects, what workers do, on the job working conditions, job search tips, and links to information about the job market in each state.

  • Opera in Video

    Contains 108 videos of the most important opera performances, staged productions, interviews, and documentaries representing the world’s best performers, conductors, and opera houses.

  • Oxford Art Online

    Provides online access to the entire text of the renowned Grove Dictionary of Art, Oxford Companion to Western Art, Encyclopedia of Aesthetics, and Concise Oxford Dictionary of Art. Covers all aspects of the visual arts worldwide.

  • Oxford Music Online

    Includes the full text of the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, New Grove Dictionary of Opera, New Grove Dictionary of Jazz, Oxford Dictionary of Music, and Oxford Companion to Music. You can find information on all aspects of music and musicians. Includes links to other music resources like RILM and Classical Music Library.

  • Palgrave Dictionary of Economics Online

    The online version of The New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics contains the full text of the 8-volume print edition, with quarterly updates and additions.

  • PapersFirst

    Indexes papers included in congresses, conferences, expositions, workshops, symposiums, and meetings received by the British Library Document Supply Centre, dating from 1993-present.

  • Philosopher's Index

    The Philosopher's Index is a bibliographic database with author-written abstracts covering scholarly research published in journals and books, including contributions to anthologies and book reviews. The database covers research published since 1940 within the fifteen fields of philosophy. The Philosopher's Index includes nearly 570 journals from 43 countries with content representing a variety of languages.

  • Physical Review Online Archive (PROLA)

    Includes Physical Review Letters (1958-2003), Reviews of Modern Physics (1929-2003), Physical Review Special Topics (1998-present), Physical Review Series I (1893-1912), Physical Review Series II (1913-1969), Physical Review Series III (1970-2003) (Physical Review A, B, C, D, and E).

  • Primary Search

    Designed for elementary school libraries and public libraries, contains articles from nearly 70 popular elementary school magazines. Full text from 1989-present, with abstracts back to 1984. All articles are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles). Useful for Education majors.

  • ProceedingsFirst

    Contains citations of congresses, symposiums, conferences, expositions, workshops, and meetings received by the British Library Document Supply Centre, from 1993-present.

  • Professional Development Collection

    Designed for professional educators, provides full text of articles from nearly 520 journals, many of which are peer-reviewed, and 200 educational reports.

  • Project MUSE

    An online library of over 300 journals from 60 scholarly publishers. Some full text dates back to 1993. Journals in this collection cover primarily the arts and humanities, and the social sciences.

  • ProQuest Newspapers

    This collection allows you to search The Chicago Tribune, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The New York Times Book Review, and The New York Times Magazine simultaneously.

  • ProQuest Newsstand Regional

    ProQuest Newsstand™ lets librarians create an online newspaper resource that meets the needs of their library’s patrons. Customers can choose to receive a selection of major national papers, or create customized state and regional packages. The core of the database is the Major Newspapers collection, which includes national and leading regional papers such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA TODAY, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, The Atlanta Journal- Constitution, Barron's, The Boston Globe, The Guardian, The Christian Science Monitor, and The Washington Post.

  • PsycARTICLES

    Includes the complete full text of 50 American Psychological Association (APA) journals as well as 13 from allied organizations. Coverage from 1894-present.

  • PsycINFO

    Covers professional and academic literature in psychology and related disciplines including medicine, psychiatry, nursing, sociology, education, pharmacology, physiology, linguistics, and other areas. There are 2,200 titles indexed, and linked full text is available.

  • PubMed

    A free, comprehensive, medical journal literature database from the National Library of Medicine (NLM).

  • Regional Business News

    Has full-text articles from 50 regional business publications from throughout the United States, including Crain's Chicago Business.

  • RILM Abstracts of Music Literature

    Contains almost 500,000 entries pertaining to vocal and musical instruments; historical and ethnomusicology; notation, theory, criticism, and analysis; pedagogy; liturgy, dance, and other interdisciplinary studies of music and related areas.

  • Routledge Encyclopedia of Philosophy

    Includes over 2000 original articles from over 1300 international experts across the discipline of philosophy. The articles cover Anglo-American, ethical and political, cross-cultural, interdisciplinary, continental and contemporary philosophy.

  • Sage E-Reference

    All Elmhurst Sage E-Reference titles can also be accessed through I-Share.

  • Sage Journals Online

    A collection of approximately 450 peer-reviewed journals in full text, covering such subject areas as business, the humanities, social sciences, and science, technology and medicine.

  • Sanborn Maps

    Our subscription to the Digital Sanborn Maps includes most towns and cities in Illinois from 1867-1970. The maps contain information such as the outline of each building, the size, shape and construction materials, heights, and location of windows and doors. The maps also give street names, sidewalk widths, property boundaries, building use, and house numbers.

  • Saskia Art Images

    A digital repository of 30,000 images, which also includes references to 19 major art history texts.

  • ScienceDirect College Edition (Social and Behavioral Sciences)

    Provides indexing to its entire library. In addition, there is access to full-text articles in over 350 psychology and social science journals for the most recent 5 years. Besides listing articles that are already in print, ScienceDirect also lists articles that are about to be published.

  • SciFinder

    SciFinder is a tool that accesses a wide diversity of research from many scientific disciplines, including biomedical sciences, chemistry, engineering, materials science, and agricultural science. Includes references from more than 10,000 currently published journals and patents from more than 57 patent authorities, as well as a collection of organic and inorganic substance information. Requires a separate login - contact the Reference Desk for more information.

  • Scirus

    A comprehensive scientific research tool, with over 450 million scientific items indexed. Includes journal content but also scientists' homepages, courseware, pre-print server material, patents and institutional repository and website information.

  • Scitation and SPIN

    Scitation is a database that includes more than one million documents from scholarly journals, magazines, conference proceedings, and other special publications from prestigious scientific societies and technical publishers. The SPIN (Searchable Physics Information Notices) database includes bibliographic records and abstracts for more than 1.5 million articles from major physical science journals, magazines, and conference proceedings published by the American Institute of Physics, its member societies, and other affiliated organizations. The SPIN database differs from Scitation in that it includes articles that are hosted on other online platforms.

  • Searchasaurus

    Aimed at the primary grades, this database searches Primary Search, Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia, EBSCO Animals, and the American Heritage Children's Dictionary.

  • SILC (Statewide Illinois Library Catalog)

    A catalog of materials from many of the library systems in Illinois. Use SILC to find information about items located in libraries limited by library type or region within Illinois.

  • SocINDEX with Full Text

    Contains more than 1,986,000 records as well as abstracts for over 2,500 journals, as well as conference papers, books, and monographs. Includes 708 full text journals, hundreds of books, thousands of conference papers, and 25,000 author profiles. Topics covered include urban studies, anthropology, criminology and criminal justice, ethnic and racial studies, marriage and the family, social psychology, and sociological theory.

  • Stat-USA

    A service of the U.S. Department of Commerce, providing information of interest to the U.S. business, economic, and trade community. Includes State of the Nation - current and historical economic data, and GLOBUS & NTDB - trade data and international market research.

  • Teacher Reference Center

    Provides indexing for over 280 of the most popular education trade journals. Linked full text is available.

  • Theatre in Video

    Theatre in Video contains 242 titles, representing hundreds of leading playwrights, actors and directors in definitive performances of the world's leading plays, together with film documentaries, online in streaming video.
