The Small College Library as a Crucible for the Future of the Profession
The librarians at Elmhurst College are engaged in a number of innovative activities in an effort to nurture and cultivate future academic librarians. These initiatives include:
- Practicums and partnerships with the Library Technical Assistant program at the College of DuPage, and the graduate school program at Dominican University;
- Practical experience provided to Dominican students via classroom instruction and vocational training;
- “Chicago’s Great Libraries,” a course encouraging students to explore and conduct research in Chicagoland libraries;
- “Tomorrow’s Librarians,” a career exploration, shadowing, and mentoring program.
