Searching I-Share

  • Search by Author to find scores and sound recordings by a particular composer
  • Search by Subject to find materials about these works, composers, and cultural topics
  • Use Advanced Search to pre-select format limiters for music score or sound recording

 

  • Subject and Search Term Examples:
    • Beethoven, Ludwig van (can also add bibliography, history, criticism, review, influences)
    • Composers Germany
    • Music 19th century history and criticism
    • Symphonies
  • Some notes about our collections:
    • Scores and books are located on the second floor of the library - scores have call numbers of M780-M789, books about music have call numbers of 780-789;
    • CD sound recordings and some videos are checked out at the Circulation Desk - these cannot leave the library, but the computers in the lower level computer cluster have CD/DVD players and headphone jacks - study rooms are also available for viewing videos;
    • many videos are available for 2 week checkout, they are located on the lower level past the bound periodicals and children's literature collections
    • Music reference books are located on the main floor of the library, call numbers R780-R789.
  • What if I can't find what I want at Elmhurst?
    • Search All I-Share Libraries to see materials from 90 other academic and research institutions in Illinois. Items that are not available at Elmhurst but appear in the catalog may be requested directly in I-Share. Please ask a librarian if you need assistance. Items not available through I-Share may be ordered online via Interlibrary Loan.
