How do you know if you have found a news article and not an editorial or other opinion article?  Below are characteristics of a news article.  Use the list to determine if your article fits these characteristics. 

  • Uses facts, quotes, and varifiable information to describe the situation 
  • States both sides in a balanced manner
  • Uses verifiable information to back up statements
  • Cites experts or officials
  • Does not use terms such as believe, I, or agree
