We have Alan Turing for posing the question whether people and a computer program could interact without the human realizing that they were talking to a computer. One of the first chatbots was ELIZA which was developed in 1966 at MIT. Since the, we have seen chatbot technology employed in customer service, libraries, college admissions departments, in our homes as personal assistants, spamming social media accounts, influence American elections, and now, write research papers.
