ENG 106 Composition II

Discovery & research inventories

Congratulations! You have a topic! But you're still not sure how to get from "thing I'm interested in" to "viable research question."

That's where discovery comes in, and it starts with a research inventory.

First, let's talk about discovery. The definition of discover is:

1. to make known or visible expose

2. to obtain sight or knowledge of for the first time find

Discovery in the research process is finding information about your topic. The more information you find, the easier it is to develop a question.

But what about the research inventory? That's the very first step in discovery: what do you already know about your topic?
